Bilingual Education is important to me. Bilingual Education means classes taught in two languages both native language and target language. For new immigrants, Bilingual Education is very important. In New York State, there have many schools that have Bilingual Education. I am a new immigrant, therefore I have Bilingual Education.

When I came to the United States, I didn't know any English. A main problem I needed to face is English. I got nervous when I first went to school. I feared I didn't know how to converse with other students. I didn't know how to answer teacher's questions. However, the school I went to have Bilingual Education. Fortunately, the teacher who taught me English could speak Chinese. Therefore, when we didn’t know what she taught. She translated it to Chinese. It led us understood easily. Bilingual Education can lead new immigrant students to adopt to a new environment quickly and easily. Bilingual Education can improve my own language skill. When I study English, at the same time, I can maintain and study my own language.

Now, I have some subjects that have Bilingual Education. These subjects are Science and History. Science and History are difficult subjects. Bilingual Education can lead us can understand these two subjects more. When I am in Science and History class, teachers usually use both English and Chinese to teach the lessons. When we understand the lessons in English, at the same time we know the Chinese. Sometime, we may not understand some lessons in English, but we understand the lessons in Chinese. Therefore, we can understand the lessons.

Bilingual Education helps with job or career. If we know two languages, we may have more chance to find a job. Employers always want their employees to speak different languages. My cousin works in an American restaurant. Most of the customers are Americans. A few Chinese customers come to this restaurant, so my cousin can speak Chinese to them. Therefore, employees who speak different languages can help employers get more customers.

Bilingual Education is important to me. If I didn’t have Bilingual Education, I wouldn’t solve my main problem easily. Bilingual Education is important to new immigrants. However, Bilingual Education can’t make us study English quickly. I think school should give new immigrants two years of Bilingual Education. After that, they should let them go to English class because it will make new immigrants study English more quickly. Bilingual Education is a transition for new immigrants.
